We Don't Want Another War in our Name!

Comments

at least these days we have electronic media where IF people want to know the truth, it's available for them to research

too right - i don't even watch the news anymore - i read it, from what i hope are far more reliable sources than mainstream media
The problem is that direct talks can lead to stability and then this administration can no longer fabricate wars.

I said at the time and I shall say it again about Ahmadinejad, at least he had the guts to come all of the way to the US/New York and present his country's case personally at the UN and also give lectures knowing he may experience some hostility.

Also there were rumours that he may be arrested as a war criminal (how ironic).

So my hat goes off to him for trying to have some dialogue. I cannot imagine Bush doing likewise. If Bush had any brains and also given the Iranian leader was in Bush's country, it should have been correct protocol that Bush arranged a face to face meeting with Ahmadinejad, but instead chose to condemn him from afar.

If memory serves me correct, Ahmadinejad was recently in Iraq to assess the situation, even that was rather brave.

Ever since the Cold War the American govt has seen fit to have an enemy to unite/control the American people. It is a sad state of affairs given that America has the potential to do so much good.

Just reading up on that "Bomb you back to the stone age" comment. It seems it was Richard (Dick) Armitage who may have made the comment. Obviously the US Govt is denying such a comment was made or it was a misunderstanding. So I don't know who to believe, should I believe the people who have a history of lying to us - Hmmmm tough decision. It seems Musharraf is quite sure it happened. If it did happen, then I am not very impressed, oh well just another thing to add to my ever growing list of things I am not happy about.

Thanks for the correction, I think it may have been Armitage. I truly think the only reason Ahmadinejad came to the US was in hopes that the American government would view his visit as a signal that he wanted talks, but the US simply ridiculed him. Also, Ahmadinejad sent a direct letter to Bush calling for dialogue & asking Bush to adopt the teachings of Jesus (peace be upon him). Not only that, he also challenged Bush to an unedited public debate about all issues including the Iranian nuclear case, American foreign policy, history, etc. I'm not saying that Iran has been an angel. However, I am saying that they are promoting dialogue with the West way more than the US is with them. It is not easy for Iran to begin a relationship with the US for this reason: I have many Iranian friends who like the American people but hate the American government for supporting the Iron-Fist rule of the Shah, for overthrowing their democratically elected leader Mohammad Musadeq in the 1950's (I think it was the 50's), for the trade embargoes the last 30 years, and for supporting Saddam with chemical weapons he used to kill 1 million Iranians. So the Iranian leadership is hesitant to say, "Ok, let's talk to America" because of the hatred most Iranians have for the American government. So they say it this way: "If America changes its policy toward us, we can have talks." or... "If the Americans invite us to the table, we will attend."
I've realized one thing through all this: It's easy for a government to go to war as long as it's the children of other people that are dying and never those working in the government. We have now lost over 4,000 American soldiers and thousands have been injured, and for what? Freedom? Security? The meaning of these words have become so saturated that it's almost impossible to define them anymore. Peace be upon the promoters of peace.
Thanks for informing me as to the lengths Ahmadinejad went to in order to try and have dialogue with Bush. What a shame for the world that Bush didn't take Ahmadinejad up on his offer.
God willing, I hope the next President will not be afraid to talk to Iran. Who knows, maybe the next Iranian president will be more direct in promoting talks. May I quote Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), a real Muslim role model in my view:

"Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss?"

Just a lame question. Isn't this war thats going on now, the continuation of the War on Terror and reason behind the declining dollar and economy?
[And increase and fear and anxiety in all]
I think that is a major contributing factor. When Hitler committed those atrocities he was successful at keeping his people at bay for this reason:
He stirred up fear and anxiety among his people by making them believe imminent threats were looming. When people live in a constant state of fear, emotion takes the place of logic and rational thinking. I think this administration has gone way too far... Not only do they try to make us afraid, but they even tell us how afraid we need to be (code orange, purple, etc).

Also, this is a continuation of the so-called War On Terror (TM). However, the ironic thing is that we have never defined what constitutes terror or exactly who we are at war with? It used to be one man or a small band of thugs in Afghanistan, now it's any extremists we deem to be hindering our strategic interests in the region. You bring up a good point about the economy. I don't know where we will go from here. I live in Michigan, the automotive capital in the world. Right now, we have the highest unemployment in the United States (out of all 50 states). Now how can we sit idle while we've spent almost a Trillion dollars on this war and it is public fact now that $9 billion dollars in war funds have "gone missing?" All the while gas prices are skyrocketing? I think it's all inter-related. Thanks for the post. May peace be upon you.
